(Seed Grown)
My go-to ground cover Banksia. This little character is quickest to bloom (three years from seed) and is quirky enough to capture the attention of any garden visitor. The deeply serrated leaves grow perpendicular to the ground and are rigid to the touch while the backsides have a distinct reptilian pattern. The flowers protrude from the edge of the foliage beginning as small acorns before developing into 6" oblong fuzz ball.

I purchased my Banksia blechnifolia as a 'Big Fella' plant in Sept. 2024, and planted it out in the ground right away. The nice size of Troy's plants and the healthy root systems they develop in the large band pots helps them to get established very quickly, and that was the case with this little Banksia. It's more than doubled in size, and is putting out its first bloom (see photo). The cool blooms and incredible foliage make this plant a winner!
It gives and gives, all year. Beautiful tough foliage, completely unique. Rusty and even pink velvety new foliage. The flowers (I can't help but call them cones) are a whole nother story. Velvet soft rust pyramid that slowly explodes into an almost teddy bear.
i can attest that this one will grow well in central valley of northern CA, while other Banksia species seem to prefer being nearer to the coast.
Plants arrived in perfect condition, I am very pleased with my purchase. Packaging was excellent, communications were clear. Looking forward to seeing new stock arrive so I can pick up some more plants.
