(Seed Grown)

Not sure this little character appreciates being called the Dainty Banksia — it takes a tough plant to survive the Australian bush — but a compliment’s a compliment. This compact, dense shrub from the south coast of Western Australia bears cream to yellow blooms about 2½ inches across, flowering mainly from winter into spring with a second flush in fall.

It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil (berms or containers are your friends here). Drought-tolerant once established but a bit frost-tender when young.

      I love Banksias

My region, climate, and soil (western side of Sacramento Valley) have not been ideal for many species of Banksia, but after much experience with failures and successes, I have decided to try more species to find ones that will not only survive but thrive in my soil and climate.
