I'm often envious of my coastal customers with their cool summer days and mild winter evenings... except when it comes to my emu bushes and their love of harsher climates. Eremophila calorhabdos × splendens has been smothered in vivid magenta-purple flowers ever since the mother plant arrived at the nursery. Those insanely bright blooms seem to float above the silvery-grey foliage, creating a display that's impossible to ignore.
 
Bred from two of Western Australia's showiest species, it combines exceptional flower power with outstanding heat and drought tolerance. Give it full sun and excellent drainage, and it'll reward you with months of electric color while everything else is wondering whether it's worth flowering at all.
