(Seed Grown)
Limited numbers on this one—I’m holding a few back for cutting propagation.
Another South African gem, Erica abietina ssp. atrorosea is a compact shrub that usually grows 2–4' tall and wide, with neat needle-like foliage that sets off its brilliant deep pink to rose-red tubular flowers. Blooming mostly through winter and spring, it’s a magnet for pollinators when little else is putting on a show.
Like most ericas, it demands sandy, acidic, well-drained soil and full sun, with some shelter from hot, drying winds. If your soil leans toward clay, plant it on a berm or in a large container for best results. Once established, it’s drought-tolerant, but it will always look and flower better with an occasional deep watering.
Tough, compact, and floriferous—it’s one of those shrubs that pulls its weight year after year.
