Erythrina numerosa only earned its own name in 2008 after botanists finally admitted it wasn't just an odd-looking Erythrina vespertilio. The bat-shaped leaves are weird enough, but then it decides to flower in glowing shades of salmon, orange and yellow-orange just to make sure nobody walks past without asking what it is. There are a few spines to keep overly enthusiastic admirers at arm's length, and the bright red seeds are toxic if ingested—so perhaps admire those with your eyes, not your mouth.
