(Seed Grown)Kennedia beckxiana may have drawn the short straw when it came to botanical names, but what it lacks in pronunciation it more than makes up for in the garden. This vigorous climber from Western Australia's Cape Arid produces large coral-red pea flowers with a striking lime-green centre from late winter through spring, creating a spectacular display on a trellis, fence or scrambling through a larger shrub.
Despite its showy appearance, it's a remarkably tough plant once established, thriving in full sun to part shade with good drainage and very little summer water. Give it something sturdy to climb—or let it spill over a retaining wall—and you'll soon forget all about its tongue-twisting name.
