(Cutting Grown)
Commonly known as Silver Tails, this playful, medium- to low-growing Australian native looks completely different in form and flower from other Ptilotus I’ve grown over the years. Soft, silvery-grey foliage forms a neat mound, and in summer it sends up sprays of fluffy pink to mauve flowers that seem to float above the plant, catching the light and hummingbirds’ attention alike. Thriving in full sun with excellent drainage, it’s a tough little customer and very low-maintenance — a bit like Ptilotus matilida, though Silver Tails stays a touch more compact. Like other Ptilotus, it also makes a fantastic cut flower.
