Image: Silverhill Seeds
(Seed Grown)Syncarpha canescens — often called pienk sewejaartjie (try saying it in the mirror—hours of fun) — is new to me, so consider this a “for what it’s worth” take from someone who hasn’t garden-tested it yet. Impulse buys happen with seed too, folks.
This small, sparsely branched shrublet has silvery-grey, felted leaves pressed against the stems, giving it a soft, mellow look even before the flowers appear.
In autumn and early winter it sends up slender stems tipped with single papery flower heads—rose‑pink bracts surrounding tiny inner florets—simple, elegant, and long-lasting. Classic everlasting style.
In the garden: lean, well-drained soil, full sun, minimal fuss. Another one for the seed cart because the photos whispered “yes,” and I can’t wait to see how it behaves in real life.
